I've done a few parkade rappels in my time, and I was happy to see that the safety rigging the guides were using was at least as comprehensive as what I had done myself. Knowing that we weren't going to fall off a cliff was reassuring, but sliding head first down a whitewater rapid rock waterslide just seemed unsafe. I later found out exactly how unsafe it was when Liz and I went at the same time and I whacked my tailbone. "You don't lie flat much," was Eagle's (the guide) quick explanation.
A few rappels and waterslides later we were ready to mash-up these skills into a washing machine of excitement. The extent of the instruction was "moon walk, look at the camera and drop the last three meters." The reality was that it was just plain slippery, everyone else got chewed up a little bit falling and/or being washed down the rocks. I prefer to be injured in tailor shops, thank you very much.
A unique experience to close out Da Lat, and my running shoes have never been cleaner!
